Barwon Health

Barwon Health is the largest Regional Health Service provider in Victoria. It offers an extensive range of general and specialist hospital, rehabilitation, residential and community services to over 93% of the Geelong community and an increasing number of residents across the Barwon South-Western region. Barwon Health has a total of 1,000 beds, and a workforce of 4,700.

Since 2003, The BOSS Electronic Clinical Solution has been providing patient management, electronic order entry and results review functionality to clinicians at The Geelong Hospital and Grace McKellar Centre, using both desktop and handheld PC's.

Clinicians can log onto the system and within seconds know what has changed with their patients since their last shift. Reviewing results from the pathology laboratory and the imaging department is available from a single interface, with the option of including cardiac, pulmonary and other specialised investigations.

The suite of BOSS modules in use at Barwon Health as now also been extended to include real-time result arrival alerts via email and SMS. When ordering a particularly important test a clinician can elect to be notified via their mobile phone or email as soon as the result is available, or only if the result is abnormal or dramatically changed.
